{"id":44602,"date":"2021-06-30T16:13:09","date_gmt":"2021-06-30T16:13:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ufcw.org\/?p=44602"},"modified":"2021-07-29T20:10:16","modified_gmt":"2021-07-29T20:10:16","slug":"ufcw-applauds-connecticuts-passage-of-cannabis-bill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ufcw.org\/ufcw-applauds-connecticuts-passage-of-cannabis-bill\/","title":{"rendered":"UFCW Applauds Connecticut\u2019s Passage of Cannabis Bill"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UFCW, America&#8217;s Cannabis Union, welcomes the passage of Connecticut\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cga.ct.gov\/asp\/cgabillstatus\/cgabillstatus.asp?selBillType=Bill&amp;which_year=2021&amp;bill_num=1201\">Senate Bill 1201<\/a>, which will legalize recreational, adult-use of Cannabis in the state, including its sale and safe regulation. <strong>The bill was signed into state law<\/strong> by <a href=\"https:\/\/portal.ct.gov\/Office-of-the-Governor\/News\/Press-Releases\/2021\/06-2021\/Governor-Lamont-Signs-Bill-Legalizing-and-Safely-Regulating-Adult-Use-Cannabis\">Governor Ned Lamont<\/a> on June 22, 2021 and will go <strong>into effect beginning July 1st<\/strong>. With this law, Connecticut becomes the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/recreational-marijuana-bill-connecticut\/\">19th state to legalize recreational marijuana<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ufcw371.org\/\">UFCW Local 371<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/ufcw919.org\/\">UFCW Local 919<\/a> have been <a href=\"https:\/\/ufcw919.org\/cannabis-division\/\">leading voices<\/a> in the push to strengthen Connecticut cannabis jobs as the industry expands across the state. Experts say the Connecticut adult-use marijuana market could <a href=\"https:\/\/mjbizdaily.com\/prospects-for-adult-use-cannabis-legalization-loom-large-in-connecticut\/\">generate $250 million in sales<\/a> in the first full year and <a href=\"https:\/\/mjbizdaily.com\/connecticut-senate-passes-adult-use-marijuana-bill-house-up-next\/#:~:text=The%20Connecticut%20Senate%2C%20by%20a,legislative%20session%20ends%20on%20Wednesday.\">$725 million in the fourth year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>UFCW Local 371 President Ronald Petronella and UFCW Local 919 President Mark Espinosa released the following joint statement:<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"quote\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cConnecticut working families need an economy that puts them first. With this bill, Connecticut can create thousands of good-paying cannabis jobs that will strengthen our communities and help to speed our economic recovery as we emerge from the pandemic.<br><br>\u201cStates across the Northeast have already tapped into the economic promise of cannabis. Creating a strong cannabis market here in Connecticut with clear regulations that prioritize good wages and worker safety is essential to ensuring we build the foundation for long-term economic growth in the industry.
