These workers\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/forlocals.ufcw.org\/2021\/12\/07\/fred-meyer-grocery-workers-make-history-in-washington-by-joining-local-1439\/\">joined our union family<\/a>\u00a0in December of 2021, and the entire store, including meat, grocery, front end, and retail\u00a0and general merchandise, is now wall to wall union.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"list\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The three-year contract, which was ratified by an overwhelming margin, includes:<\/li><li>A new wage scale with four across the board wage increases;<\/li><li>Workplace safety language and avenues to escalate concerns that aren\u2019t addressed at the store level;<\/li><li>\u201cJust Cause\u201d protections (meaning workers cannot be terminated or disciplined without a reason);<\/li><li>A grievance procedure giving workers the ability to challenge unjust discipline or any violations of the new contract;<\/li><li>Access to affordable high-quality health care for workers and their families;<\/li><li>A pathway to a Taft-Hartley pension; and<\/li><li>Union recognition and union security to ensure workers have a strong union store for years to come.<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe were able to come together as a store and a community, winning a historic first contract in the Tri-Cities,\u201d said Fred Meyer employee Eden Hill, who also served on the Bargaining Committee. \u201cWe will continue to fight to improve working conditions and pay for all Fred Meyer workers.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Oct. 7, about 250 members of UFCW Local 3000 who work at Fred Meyer in Richland, Wash., ratified their first union contract.
