They look forward to bargaining for wages that match the rising cost of living, consistent and adequate hours, and proper staffing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI am excited to have a say in policy that affects my work,\u201d said Blake Buzzo, a shop mechanic and member of the REI Maple Grove Organizing Committee. \u201cI want to improve work-life balance and get more than nine days notice on schedules so I have more flexibility to plan time with friends and family. I also want to see guaranteed hours for part-time staff.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI am excited to form a union because I want to change the perspective,\u201d said Manny Yang, a customer service sales lead and member of the REI Maple Grove Organizing Committee. \u201cRetail workers are worthy of living wages and need accountability and clear communication from our leaders. As employees, we are skilled educators of the outdoors who are adapting every day for business objectives. We are asking REI to do the same. Be a model to society and realize we are an asset to the company.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe welcome REI workers in Maple Grove to the UFCW Local 663 union family,\u201d said UFCW Local 663 President Rena Wong. \u201cWe\u2019re looking forward to building a better life together as a union. Now more than ever, it is important to join together in the workplace and form a union to protect, defend and build upon our rights in the workplace.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UFCW Local 663\u2019s organizing win is a part of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ourrei.com\/\">national REI campaign<\/a>, and follows the successful unionization efforts at REI stores in&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/forlocals.ufcw.org\/2022\/03\/07\/rei-workers-in-new-york-city-join-rwdsu-ufcw\/\">SoHo<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/forlocals.ufcw.org\/2022\/09\/06\/rei-workers-in-california-join-local-5\/\">Berkeley<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/forlocals.ufcw.org\/2023\/03\/20\/rei-workers-in-ohio-join-rwdsu-ufcw\/\">Cleveland<\/a>, Chicago,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/forlocals.ufcw.org\/2023\/05\/30\/rei-workers-in-boston-join-local-1445\/\">Boston<\/a>, Durham, and Bellingham.<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On June 9, REI workers in Maple Grove, Minn., voted to join UFCW Local 663 by an overwhelming margin.
