{"id":53776,"date":"2024-01-18T20:43:22","date_gmt":"2024-01-18T20:43:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ufcw.org\/?post_type=press_releases&#038;p=53776"},"modified":"2024-01-18T20:43:23","modified_gmt":"2024-01-18T20:43:23","slug":"complaint-against-trader-joes-closure","status":"publish","type":"press_releases","link":"https:\/\/www.ufcw.org\/press-releases\/complaint-against-trader-joes-closure\/","title":{"rendered":"UFCW Statement on NLRB Complaint Against Trader Joe\u2019s Closure of NYC Wine Shop"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>WASHINGTON, DC<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Today, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ufcw.org\/about\/\">United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW)<\/a>, which represents 1.2 million essential workers in grocery, meatpacking, retail, and other essential industries across North America, released the following statement regarding the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nlrb.gov\/case\/02-CA-306679\">decision\u00a0<\/a>to file a complaint against Trader Joe\u2019s in response to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ufcw.org\/press-releases\/ufcw-trader-joes-wine-shop-organizing-committee-file-unfair-labor-practice-ulp-charge-against-trader-joes\/\">Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) charge workers brought against the company<\/a>\u00a0after it\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ufcw.org\/press-releases\/ufcw-trader-joes-workers-call-on-trader-joes-to-stop-union-busting-at-beloved-nyc-wine-shop\/\">abruptly closed its only wine shop in New York<\/a>. The Trader Joe\u2019s workers who filed the ULP believed the workplace closure was in retaliation for their efforts to unionize.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>UFCW International released the following statement:<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"quote\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWith the NLRB\u2019s complaint and notice of hearing, former Trader Joe\u2019s wine shop crew members in New York are one step closer to getting the justice they deserve. These workers showed up every day, delivering the knowledge and service that Trader Joe\u2019s is so famous for, only to wake up and find out that their store had been closed overnight.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLet\u2019s make one thing clear: Trader Joe\u2019s shamelessly and illegally engaged in union busting to scare Trader Joe\u2019s workers across the region and stop these workers from having a voice on the job.
