{"id":53953,"date":"2024-03-07T20:37:07","date_gmt":"2024-03-07T20:37:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ufcw.org\/?post_type=press_releases&#038;p=53953"},"modified":"2024-03-07T20:37:08","modified_gmt":"2024-03-07T20:37:08","slug":"ufcw-statement-on-legislation-abandoning-proposed-nursing-home-staffing-standards","status":"publish","type":"press_releases","link":"https:\/\/www.ufcw.org\/press-releases\/ufcw-statement-on-legislation-abandoning-proposed-nursing-home-staffing-standards\/","title":{"rendered":"UFCW Statement on Legislation Abandoning Proposed Nursing Home Staffing Standards"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>WASHINGTON, DC<\/strong> \u2013 Today, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ufcw.org\/about\/\">United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW)<\/a>, which represents 1.2 million essential workers across North America, including nursing home, assisted living, and health care industry workers, released the following statement in response to yesterday\u2019s passage of \u201cProtecting America\u2019s Seniors Access to Care Act\u201d (H.R. 7513) by the House Ways &amp; Means Committee, that would prohibit the Biden administration from finalizing a proposed rule on nursing home staffing standards.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>UFCW International President Marc Perrone released the following statement:<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"quote\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhen nursing homes are understaffed, it is both patients and workers who suffer. Only the nursing home industry would benefit from this bill as it would allow them to continue to place profit over patient care.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe UFCW urges members of Congress to vote against this bill and support the administration\u2019s efforts to finalize the proposed rule. A federal minimum staffing requirement is necessary for millions of families across the country whose loved ones deserve skilled, quality care.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Biden administration&#8217;s proposed rule would have established, among other guardrails, much-needed minimum staffing standards in nursing homes.
