Cannabis workers at From the Earth Dispensary in Raytown, Mo., recently joined UFCW Local 2 for a better life. This is first cannabis unit in the Kansas City area to be represented by UFCW Local 2.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

The 29 workers joined our union family for the better wages and benefits that come with union membership and are looking forward to negotiating their first union contract.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\n

\u201cI am proud to say that we won our union election with the UFCW,\u201d said one of the workers at From the Earth Dispensary. \u201cWe won because we organized. We organized because it\u2019s our right \u2013 a right we will now exercise to negotiate our first union contract.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\n

\u201cOur success is thanks to the dedication of our organizing efforts,\u201d the worker added. \u201cTogether, we represent the spirit of a labor organizing movement sweeping the country. This victory is not just about winning an election; it\u2019s about paving the way for a future where workers\u2019 value and their voices are respected and protected.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\u201cThe reason I wanted to unionize is for job security and to make sure, as employees, our voices can be heard,\u201d said Edward Garvin Jr, who also works at From the Earth Dispensary. \u201cThe industry is so new that it opens a lot of options for exploitation. Having a strong union contract helps prevent employers from taking advantage of the very workers who help make this industry so successful.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
