{"id":54212,"date":"2024-04-24T17:51:56","date_gmt":"2024-04-24T17:51:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ufcw.org\/?post_type=press_releases&#038;p=54212"},"modified":"2024-04-24T17:51:57","modified_gmt":"2024-04-24T17:51:57","slug":"administration-final-rule-on-nursing-home-staffing-standards","status":"publish","type":"press_releases","link":"https:\/\/www.ufcw.org\/press-releases\/administration-final-rule-on-nursing-home-staffing-standards\/","title":{"rendered":"UFCW Statement on Biden Administration\u2019s Final Rule on Nursing Home Staffing Standards"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>WASHINGTON, D.C.<\/strong> \u2013 Today, the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ufcw.org\/about\/\"> United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW)<\/a>, which represents 1.2 million essential workers across North America, including nursing home, assisted living, and health care industry workers, released a statement following the Biden administration\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2024\/04\/22\/fact-sheet-vice-president-harris-announces-historic-advancements-in-long-term-care-to-support-the-care-economy\/\">announcement <\/a>of their final nursing home staffing rule.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>UFCW International President Marc Perrone released the following statement:<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"quote\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis landmark rule will finally hold nursing homes to a higher level of care, forcing companies to provide staffing based on the needs of their residents, not on the needs of their bottom line.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhile the UFCW applauds the Biden administration for going above and beyond what the current law requires and setting a higher standard for staffing, this rule still falls short of what workers and their patients actually need.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe UFCW remains committed to fighting for the countless workers who have asked for a rule that increases transparency and safety in order to fully protect themselves and the loved ones they care for.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last fall, the UFCW<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ufcw.org\/press-releases\/ufcw-provides-comment-suggestions-on-biden-administrations-nursing-home-staffing-proposed-rule\/\"> submitted public comment<\/a> on the proposed rule, providing recommendations to strengthen the rule with worker testimonials that showcased the real life impact this rule will have.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">###<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The UFCW International is the largest private sector union in the United States, representing 1.2 million workers and their families in grocery, meatpacking, food processing, health care, cannabis, retail, and other essential industries.
