They also wanted dignity, fairness, and respect on the job. Cannabis is one of the fastest-growing industries in the state. The average dispensary in Maryland brings in over $1 million a month in sales per location, while workers face long hours, low wages and unsafe conditions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese workers came to us just two months ago with a clear message: enough is enough,\u201d said UFCW Local 27 President <strong>Jason Chorpenning<\/strong>. \u201cCannabis workers across the country are sick of being treated like they\u2019re disposable while dispensaries rake in millions in profits. Today, our members at gLeaf showed who really holds the power \u2014 the workers.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese workers work incredibly hard supporting an industry that wouldn\u2019t exist without them,\u201d <strong>Chorpenning<\/strong> added. \u201cThey\u2019ve shown immense courage and solidarity, and now they\u2019re on the path to securing a strong union contract. The gLeaf workers refused to accept the status quo and fought for the fairness, voice and power they deserve. If you\u2019re a cannabis worker in Maryland, there\u2019s only one place you belong \u2014 in the union for cannabis workers.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are proud of our team here at gLeaf and the foundation we have set,\u201d said gLeaf employee <strong>Nathan Vanover<\/strong>. \u201cWe are looking forward to the next steps of this process and ask the community to help us in celebrating the unification of our workplace.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This new unit marks the fifth successful cannabis dispensary unionization in Maryland over the past year led by UFCW Local 27, which also represents cannabis workers at Apothecarium dispensaries in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/forlocals.ufcw.org\/2024\/10\/15\/cannabis-workers-in-maryland-join-local-27-3\/\">Salisbury<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/forlocals.ufcw.org\/2024\/08\/26\/cannabis-workers-in-maryland-join-local-27-2\/\">Cumberland<\/a>&nbsp;and Health for Life dispensaries in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/forlocals.ufcw.org\/2024\/04\/01\/cannabis-workers-in-maryland-continue-to-join-local-27\/\">Baltimore<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/forlocals.ufcw.org\/2024\/04\/15\/more-cannabis-workers-in-maryland-join-local-27-2\/\">White Marsh<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Workers at the gLeaf cannabis dispensary in Frederick, Md., joined UFCW Local 27 on May 9.
