{"id":63910,"date":"2026-01-19T09:30:00","date_gmt":"2026-01-19T14:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ufcw.org\/?post_type=press_releases&#038;p=63910"},"modified":"2026-01-16T16:05:04","modified_gmt":"2026-01-16T21:05:04","slug":"ufcw_honors_mlk_legacy","status":"publish","type":"press_releases","link":"https:\/\/www.ufcw.org\/press-releases\/ufcw_honors_mlk_legacy\/","title":{"rendered":"UFCW Honors MLK\u2019s Legacy"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>WASHINGTON<\/strong> \u2013 Today, the<strong> <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ufcw.org\/about\/\"><strong>United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW)<\/strong><\/a>, which represents 1.2 million essential workers across North America, honored Dr. King\u2019s legacy and reaffirmed our union\u2019s commitment to building a better future for all Americans.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>UFCW International President Milton Jones<\/strong> released the following statement:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"quote\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cToday, we honor the life, legacy, and moral courage of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. His commitment to nonviolence and social justice reflected a deep belief that every person is created with dignity and worth and that our actions should reflect that truth.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDr. King believed that justice, equity, and opportunity are not just privileges for the few, but rights that should be afforded to all. At a time when immigrants and working families are having their civil and human rights violated across the country, his call for compassion, dignity, and humanity reminds us of our shared responsibility to stand up for one another against injustice.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe UFCW will continue Dr. King\u2019s work not just with words, but with action \u2013 by speaking out against injustice, resisting policies that harm working families, and fighting for safe workplaces, fair wages, affordable health care, retirement security, immigrant rights, and the right to stand together for a better life without fear.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">###<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The UFCW International is the largest private sector union in the United States, representing 1.2 million workers and their families in grocery, meatpacking, food processing, health care, cannabis, retail, and other essential industries.
