As the UFCW warned, this legislation falls woefully short during a time of high grocery prices and upheaval in the food supply chain.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs the Trump Administration considers raising line speeds at meatpacking plants to dangerous levels and continues to fight federal workers\u2019 collective bargaining rights, not a single provision in this Farm Bill will improve standards or safety for food workers. Food affordability for consumers continues to be ignored as well, with SNAP cuts left in place and no measures to protect families from predatory pricing tactics.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFood workers, including hundreds of thousands of UFCW members, deserve better than this Farm Bill. Congress has an array of bills worth considering to improve the lives of workers and consumers, like the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ufcw.org\/press-releases\/ban-surveillance-pricing-on-groceries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>Stop Price Gouging in Grocery Stores Act<\/u><\/a>. This Farm Bill is not one of them.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BACKGROUND<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"list\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"list-item\">\n<li>As the House Agriculture Committee considered the Farm Bill, the UFCW\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ufcw.org\/press-releases\/ufcw-urging-no-vote-on-farm-bill-in-house-agriculture-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>vocally opposed<\/u><\/a>\u00a0it and urged committee members to vote \u2018No\u2019 during the committee\u2019s markup of the bill.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"list\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"list-item\">\n<li>Members of Congress interested in lowering food costs for families and supporting food workers should instead support the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ufcw.org\/press-releases\/ban-surveillance-pricing-on-groceries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>Stop Price Gouging in Grocery Stores Act<\/u><\/a>, which would ban surveillance pricing and electronic shelf labels in grocery stores, and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ufcw.org\/press-releases\/ufcw-supports-food-secure-strikers-act\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>Food Secure Strikes Act<\/u><\/a>, which would allow striking workers and their households to receive SNAP benefits. Lawmakers should also consider the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/119th-congress\/house-bill\/7938\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>Grocery, Farm, and Food Worker Stabilization Grant Program Act<\/u><\/a>, which would create a grant program to provide stabilization payments to food workers in the case of a natural or other disaster.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">###<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The UFCW International is the largest private sector union in the United States, representing 1.2 million workers and their families in cannabis, grocery, meatpacking, food processing, healthcare, retail and other essential industries in all 50 states, Canada, and Puerto Rico.
