The new collective bargaining agreement covers more than 2,525 UFCW Local 2<\/a> members at National Beef Packing Company in Dodge City, Kan.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

\n

Workers in the processing, fabrication, shipping, and maintenance departments approved the five-year contract earlier this summer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

Significant gains include:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

  • Wage increases<\/li>\n<\/div>\n\n

  • Ratification bonuses<\/li>\n<\/div>\n\n
    \n
  • More comprehensive health insurance coverage<\/li>\n<\/div>\n\n
    \n
  • Increased vacation and bereavement allocations<\/li>\n<\/div>\n\n
    \n
  • A walking steward position<\/li>\n<\/div>\n\n
    \n
  • Additional contributions to the education, safety, and cultural fund<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n

    Member Jesus Carlos Rivera Cervantes was thrilled with the bargaining outcome. \u201cWe\u2019re very pleased with the provisions that were improved in favor of the members through the ratification of this contract,\u201d he said. \u201cHonestly, we weren\u2019t expecting very much, given the shortage of cattle, reduced work hours, and the difficult economy. Despite all the obstacles, workers were thanking the negotiating committee for what they were able to accomplish.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

    UFCW Local 2 President Martin Rosas added that the achievement didn\u2019t happen by chance. \u201cIt is the result of our membership\u2019s unity, organization, and solidarity,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen workers stand united and fight together, we can secure better wages, better benefits, and a better quality of life for our families.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
