No one should have to live in fear of going to work, sending their kids to school, or shopping at the grocery store. We are gathering information about ICE&#8217;s presence and continue to offer support to UFCW Local 2 members and their families as we navigate this.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>UFCW International President Milton Jones<\/strong> said:<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"quote\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe stand arm-in-arm with all UFCW members in Dodge City and Liberal, and condemn ICE\u2019s presence in southwest Kansas. ICE\u2019s targeting of these communities sows fear, instability, and chaos into the lives of those trying to make a living and feed our nation. Local economies cannot thrive unless people feel safe.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese disruptions directly impact the safety of all workers and the supply of beef. If supply drops, prices will go up. At a time when working people are already struggling with record-high food costs, our country cannot afford the havoc that these inhumane policies wreak in our communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BACKGROUND<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"list\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"list-item\">\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/aflcio.org\/reports\/citizenship-and-affordability-agenda\">recent report from the AFL-CIO<\/a> found that if the mass deportation plans being executed by the Trump administration continue, nearly 6 million jobs, nearly half of which are currently held by U.S. citizens, could be wiped out. It\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jec.senate.gov\/public\/index.cfm\/democrats\/2024\/12\/mass-deportations-would-deliver-a-catastrophic-blow-to-the-u-s-economy\">estimated<\/a> that mass deportations could raise prices by 9.1 percent by 2028.<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"list\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"list-item\">\n<li>Immigration enforcement, operating out of unmarked cars, in Kansas has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kake.com\/home\/ice-conducting-operations-in-southwest-kansas\/article_7dd58dd2-87c1-4442-a805-f67ad09961e8.html\">targeted<\/a> U.S. citizens for I.D. checks. The presence of ICE can spread fear and cause many workers to stay home, including workers with permanent residence and work authorization, and even people born in this country with citizenship. In Chicago last year, school attendance <a href=\"https:\/\/blockclubchicago.org\/2025\/11\/07\/attendance-drops-at-chicago-schools-in-communities-with-increased-immigration-enforcement\/\">dropped<\/a> as ICE patrolled neighborhoods.<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"list\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"list-item\">\n<li>In cities where ICE arrests increased fastest in 2025, employment <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brookings.edu\/articles\/beyond-arrests-how-ice-enforcement-depressed-local-employment-in-2025\/\">fell<\/a> .4 percent below its expected trajectory, and not just among immigrants, but among native-born Americans as well. Based on arrest and job loss data, for every arrest made, four jobs were lost. Immigrants with no criminal record are now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/ng-interactive\/2025\/aug\/29\/trump-immigration-ice-cbp-data\">the largest group<\/a> in U.S. immigration detention.<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">###<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"tw-max-w-217 tw-m-auto tw-px-6 rich-text contained-block\" data-module=\"paragraph\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The UFCW International is the largest private sector union in the United States, representing 1.2 million workers and their families in grocery, meatpacking, food processing, healthcare, cannabis, retail, and other essential industries.
